A Winter Park Wedding at Chapel & Cellar

Crystal chandeliers and original pews in a 1935 chapel, a short walk from Park Avenue.

For a small wedding in Winter Park, Chapel & Cellar has been an easy recommendation. It’s a little white chapel on West Lyman Avenue, right off Park Avenue where Hannibal Square begins. We’ve photographed and filmed weddings here, and for a room this size, it photographs really well.

The building has been around a while. It went up in 1935 and was home to Grant Chapel Methodist Church from 1943 into the 1990s. In December 2013 it was moved a few blocks to the corner of Lyman and New York avenues and started over as a wedding venue.

Before you fall for it, though: the venue’s operator says it’s closing at the end of 2026. More on that below.

Chapel & Cellar at a glance

From our weddings here

Where we shoot here

Everybody wants the aisle shot, and this room delivers it. Dim the four crystal chandeliers, let the original pews frame the aisle, and the chapel looks in photos the way it feels in person. That isn’t always true of small spaces. The altar area is tight, so we work out angles with your officiant ahead of time.

Out in the courtyard, the oaks and the brick terrace give you shade for portraits, and the fountain lights up at night. Park Avenue is a short walk away if you want a few street portraits before the reception.

Planning photo, film and music here

Everything here is small. The chapel seats about 48 and the cellar about 47, so we keep it to one photographer and one videographer, enough to cover the room without standing in anyone’s way.

The cellar has its own Sonos system, which handles background music and toasts just fine. If you want a real dance floor, talk to us about bringing our own sound, and check the venue’s rules on amplified music in the courtyard. With only nine parking spots on site, plan on rideshare or a shuttle for guests.

Chapel & Cellar is closing

In May 2026, the operator, aVenue Event Group, announced it won’t renew its lease when it runs out in late 2026. Weddings already on the calendar are still happening, but it isn’t taking anything for 2027 or later. The building’s owner is looking for a new operator, so the chapel could host weddings again someday.

Planning a 2027 wedding in Winter Park? You still have good options. Casa Feliz, the Capen House, Knowles Memorial Chapel at Rollins College and The Alfond Inn are all in town, and Harry P. Leu Gardens is just over the line in Orlando. We’ll be writing about more of them soon. Until then, our Winter Park wedding page covers how we handle photo, film and DJ around the city.
